Beginners Locksmith courses

For those with no experience in locksmithing our beginners courses include a 5 day course with 4 modules during the week.

2 Day Foundation Course – teaches you how to cut keys, basics of safes, how locks work – a perfect introduction to locksmithing.
1 Day Fitting Course – learn to fit and upgrade mortice locks & night latches
1 Day UPVC Course – learn the important aspects of UPVC doors & Multipoint Locks, from identify multipoint locks to opening jammed mechanisms
1 Day Basic Opening Course – learn the basics of opening different types of locks

Most people attend all 5 days although you can select different course modules to attend.

1. How long does it take to train to be a locksmith?

Our 5-day beginners course allows those with no experience to go out and start trading as a locksmith, although locksmithing is a ongoing career whereby you learn something new every day, keeping up to date with product knowledge is essential as well.

2. How much does locksmith training cost?

The price for locksmith training is from £620 for our 2-day beginner’s module to £1605 for our full 5-day course.

Our 1 Day locksmith course prices start from £310 for our lock fitting module.

3. Do you offer any kind of payment plan?

Yes! There are payment plan options for those attending any of our courses.</p<

Course attendees can set up a payment plan, where all we require is your course to be paid in full one month before the start date.

4. What is the best locksmith training course?

The best locksmith course for your needs all depends on what service you want to offer as a locksmith, our tutors all have decades of experience as trading locksmiths.

Our 2-day foundation module is a great starting point for those don’t want to commit to a full 5-day course.

Our training courses are also recognised by UCAS and mentioned by National Careers Service.

5. Can I start trading as a locksmith after the course?

Yes you can start working as a locksmith after our beginner course.

Currently there are ZERO government regulations on locksmithing so effectively anyone can call themselves a locksmith, this is why we license our locksmiths as MLA Approved Locksmiths.

6. Do I become qualified after attending your courses?

All attendees of each beginners course receive a certificate of attendance from the UK’s largest locksmith association, the Master Locksmiths Association.

If you are looking for a qualification, the MLA Qualification allows locksmiths to become a fully Qualified Master Locksmith.

The MLA qualification is the highest locksmith qualification in the UK, recognised by Ofsted and certified by ABBE (Awarding Body of the Built Environment).

7. Do you accept ELCAS Funding for ex armed forces?

Yes, we accept ELCAS funding if you are ex armed forces/ex military.

We run a custom ECLAS locksmith training course aimed at beginners with an official qualification at the end

If you want to know how to be a locksmith, then there are many several skills required to becoming a professional locksmith;

A lot of people new to locksmithing think that after a 3-day course they can earn £60K a year sadly this is probably unrealistic.

A locksmiths craft is very diverse as there are also many specialist fields; some locksmiths will have a business that covers some of these fields ( e.g key cutting, uPVC locks, access control ), some businesses may specialise in one area ( e.g security safe specialists ).

How to Gain an Understanding of Locksmithing

To gain experience a local locksmith may offer you work as an “apprentice” – there is currently no formal apprenticeships in locksmithing.

The most popular way to learn about becoming a locksmith is to attend our 5-day beginner’s locksmith course at our Training Centre in Rugby, Warwickshire.
